As the first democratic republic in Asia, the 100th anniversary marks a milestone in world's history. The Republic of China has had a long and markable legacy throughout history, especially the period since ist regime was transplanted in Taiwan in 1949. Lt has achieved economic miracle as well as successful transition to democracy. This conference attracted many prominent scholars, experts and former officials;they shared their thoughts on both the ROC's developmental experiences, and projected the country's future outlook. It featured five panels: one focusing on the ROC's history dating back to 1912 in China, and the other four addressed to the nation's economy, society, politics, and multiculturalism respectively. for two days both the panelists and other participants engaged in intellectual discourse, generating very living atmosphere. The conference was an important part of the series of centennial celebration events. It brought together those who primarily care and are interested in the developmental experiences of the ROC in Taiwan. In a broader sense, the conference also helps us reflect upon many ongoing challenges in the face of globalization at home and abroad. As we celebrate the nation's 100th anniversary, we are mindful of the potential roadblocks that may lie ahead in its future path to further progress.
