|aThe 90 papers of this proceedings were first delivered at the April 2008 Solutions to Coastal Disasters Conference held in Turtle Bay, Oahu. Hawaii (a second volume contains the conference papers on tsunamis). The papers are organized by topic, including sea level rise, changes in extreme wave climate, hurricanes and storm surge, cyclone and inundation monitoring, shoreline retreat, beach nourishment, and coastal hazard mitigation. A number of papers discuss tools and monitoring, including those that enhance flood response and FEMA flood mapping. The majority of the papers address specific cases in areas worldwide--though Hawaii is often a topic--making this a valuable resource of current projects and methodology.
